Important Places in Lucea, Jamaica

Sunday, May 31st, 2009 | Author: Jamaica

Alright, back into my favorite town in Jamaica….Lucea. I’m still not sure why I’ve always found this little town so charming compared to the rest of the places I’ve been in Jamaica but I just love it!

Its taken me 6 years to actually make the stop in Lucea and look around, so I decided I better make it worthwhile and capture some of the important places in the town….the government buildings.

As usual, I always seem to manage to find the police and fire stations. These firemen didn’t seem as welcoming as the Negril and Ocho Rios crews who invited us in for full tours. But they didn’t seem to mind us taking the pictures. For the life of me, I can’t figure out what’s wrong with those windows LOL.

I thought the official tax collector building was kinda funny. In my mind that should be a part of City Hall but it seems they need to make a bigger statement in the streets by having its own building.

And I’m just assuming this next building is as important as the rest. The roads and works department.

Its interesting to have seen all these “official” looking places because I sometimes forget that Jamaica’s a place like any other. They too, run regular business like any other country in the world would. I just get swept up in all the charm and beauty of Jamaica and don’t remember there’s daily life going on everywhere.

Favorite Jamaica Questions – Part 3

Friday, May 29th, 2009 | Author: Jamaica

Okay so now I get thousands of search terms in my stats and I can no longer keep track of them LOL!  So I skimmed through the ones for May and still managed to pick out some great ones.  It amazes me what people use Google for!leontree

Q: 3 Jamaicans get into a taxi
A: LOL this sounds like a good start to one of those jokes like “2 Rabbi’s and a priest get into a boat”

Q: Do Jamaicans need donations?
A: Probably. Do Americans need donations right now?

Q: I fell in love with Jamaican.
A: Didn’t we all, hunny!

Q: What do you think of the pushy Jamaican people?
A: An odd question to ask Google. Wonder if it answered yet?

Q: Can i charge my mp3 player in Jamaica?
A: This is actually a legitimate question, I didn’t know about electrical outlets my first time either. So the answer is YES, the electrical outlets in Jamaica are the same as back home. You can bring your hair dryer and charge your MP3 player, your laptop, etc.

Q: Where to keep money when on Jamaica beach.
A: Where you can see it. Its not like there are people hiding in the bushes waiting for you to not look so they can steal your stuff. I leave it in my beach bag, on my towel in plain view while I’m in the water.

Q: Cockroach Jamaica
A: LOLOL!! There are no words to answer this. For some reason the first thing that popped into my head was a hip hop artist named Cockroach.  But in case you REALLY wanted to know….YES there are cockroaches in Jamaica.  Big ones.

Q: Jamaican serial killers.
A: I don’t even wanna know WHO or WHY they’re searching for this!!! Searching for competition maybe?

Churches in Jamaica

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 | Author: Jamaica

I’ve always known that Jamaica has the most churches in the world, per capita. But just found out by researching that this fact is actually a Guinness World Record! Imagine that!

You can find a church on every single street corner it seems, and some of them are the most charming little structures ever!! There are so many different looking ones compared to our modern ones back home, I love taking pictures of churches in Jamaica.

I’ve never actually gone to church in Jamaica, which is odd because I attend every Sunday at home.  I’m not sure why I have a hang-up about going to one in Jamaica besides the fact that maybe I’m shy to go in alone.  When I live in Jamaica next year I would like to find one in my community and become a regular member.

This next church I could only IMAGINE what the view is like.  You can’t tell by this picture but the church is perched on a hilltop high above the Caribbean sea!  I spotted it when I was on a boat dock in the water below.  What a beautiful place to worship!
