So….does this look appetizing to you? Boiled green banana, saltfish and dumpling Boiled green banana is another staple in the Jamaican diet, mostly for breakfast and usually served with saltfish and dumpling. That picture is a meal someone cooked us for breakfast. My mom took the picture and this was pretty much her first meal in Jamaica. She said the bananas looked like unhealthy sausage links LOL. But she was a trooper and tried it all anyways and loved it. Green banana in a pot The first...
Alright this is my second installment of churches in Jamaica, you can see my first post about them HERE. This time all the churches are in the same town, Port Maria in the parish of St Mary. This day we literally just wandered the streets ALL day long on foot and took pictures of everything. If you gathered from my first church post that I’m obsessed with the look of churches in Jamaica, you’re right! United Church in Jamaica & Cayman Islands, Port Maria The church in the picture...
Okay so I’ve posted about this before, but I confess the last time I posted I didn’t actually DO the rafting! CLICK HERE to read the first post I did, but continue reading if you want to see how great is really is! The pictures in the last post were ones that I found on the internet. These next ones are pictures I took of my experience! White River is only about a 15 minute car ride from the centre of Ocho Rios, don’t pay a charter taxi more than $800 JMD to get there or call...
Ahh you’re gonna love this one! And I’m glad I lived to tell about it! A few weeks ago I was in Port Maria and a friend of mine who’s nephew is a fisherman there offered to take us fishing. Sounded great until we woke up that day and it was windy and stormy! But we had faith it was going to clear up and we headed out anyways. Well it turned out to be one of those events where the whole time you’re planning how you’ll save your own life if you have to! Fishermans...
Dr Bell Has the Prescription Any time I find a great driver in Jamaica I feel the need to help them out by promoting their services on this site. I’ve been to Jamaica enough times to know it’s not easy finding an honest and fair driver who knows that if they treat me right the first time I’ll keep calling them back. I found “Dr Bell” in Ocho Rios one day while looking for a ride to a Plantation. There are so many drivers to choose from all over Ochi but he quoted...
Ever since I found out on a friend’s website, KEEP IT JIGGY, about another lighthouse in Jamaica I made it my mission to find it when I got to St Mary two weeks ago. I’m obsessed with lighthouses, I just find them so intriguing! Let me tell you it was no easy feat….it seemed no one knew where it was! We left it up to a route taxi driver to ask around and finally he found the way. I didn’t regret it and I got the perfect stormy day to photograph it! Galina Point Lighthouse...
