Blue Lagoon – Jamaica

On a day trip to Port Antonio one of our missions was to stop at Blue Lagoon. Yes this is the place where the Brooke Shields original move “Blue Lagoon” was filmed.

I’ve seen some spectacular pictures on the internet of this place, unfortunately mine aren’t as amazing! I’ve heard the color of the water changes depending on the angle the sun hits it, I guess we missed the great angle LOL. But this place really needs to be seen in real life, not just pictures. And you need to walk in the water and experience how it feels. The water is unbelievably warm and has currents of warm and cold water waving past your legs. A really cool sensation.

I also heard the world record for the deepest free dive (no air) is held by a Jamaican, at Blue Lagoon. Someone told us the lagoon is about 150 feet deep but I’ve read it’s 180 feet, although it was once thought to be bottomless LOL.
Something really cool happened while we were wading around the shoreline….we heard quite the disturbance in the water coming from far off behind a tree, it sounded like it was approaching. We all just stood there wondering what the hell it could be! Suddenly the biggest group of fish came bounding out of nowhere creating such a ruckus! They just kept going, jumping in and out of the water, there must have been hundreds of them! Out of the three cameras we had there I couldn’t believe one of us was ready at this moment…which really only lasted a few seconds! Nice shot Erin! The picture doesn’t do it much justice, video would have been WAY better to capture the noise that followed them!

I did bring my swimsuit this day but it was in my bag and I just didn’t see a place to change. TIP: If you want to swim, make sure your swimsuit is on under your clothing! I waded in up past my knees though, and felt how warm the water was.
The boys decided to take a dip, you can see how clear the water is below their waistlines. They swam a ways out but then panicked when it got deep. It was hilarious to see them practically drowning each other to reach back to the shore!! I don’t have a clue what they were scared of LOL!
And last but not least, they decided to have some fun and entertain us before we left and carried on to Boston Bay. I don’t think there’s anywhere they won’t do tricks and have fun!
