Since Ackee and saltfish is my favorite Jamaican dish I thought I’d add another post about it. CLICK HERE to see my first post about it way back when I first started writing.
On my September trip I had ackee & saltfish on my very first morning for breakfast. My friend Marlon picked it straight from the tree. I love how ackee looks!

He brought it to me in a bag and I sat on the veranda at 8am taking it out of the shell, removing the seeds and preparing it for cooking.
Preparing ackee for breakfast
This one I had to take a picture of….it reminded me of a scrunched up old man’s face. Cute.
After I peeled all the fresh ackee from the shells the guys took it to the kitchen and worked their magic! They cooked it up with some oil, veggies and my favorite, saltfish. I can’t remember if we had dumplings with it this day but the best thing with this breakfast is fried dumplings…hands down.

Mmmm, that looks good! I didn’t have a big breakfast this morning so that last picture it making me hungry.
Oh, I almost forgot, boiled dumplings are better than fried dumplings any day!

dont TEASE me!! I remember when I was a little girl staying at my aunts house in JA.. I would sneak in the fridge and eat it raw – yes disgusting.. but I didn’t know any better and I knew what I wanted.
And as far as ackee and saltfish go, you HAVE to eat it with breadfruit but FRIED dumplings is an appropriate substitute!
