Bubbles Garden Cafe – Hanover, Jamaica
On Your Way To Negril…..
It’s not very often I want to make a coffee-stop in Jamaica but when we made this stop on our way to Negril we were specifically looking for somewhere we could have a coffee. But not just any coffee – we wanted rum cream and coffee. We ended up at Bubbles Garden Cafe quite by accident because we actually pulled over at the much bigger shop and bar right beside it but they only had half of what we wanted – the rum cream – and zero ambiance. But they also had this cool giant map painted on their wall so I can at least show you where we were. Somewhere in Hanover between Montego Bay and Negril.
At the place where this map is there was a much needed restroom, a souvenir shop and a small bar that sold drinks and cigarettes. We only used the restroom and bought two small bottles of rum cream to carry over to Bubbles Cafe next door where we knew we could get coffee. What a nice little piece of real estate Miss Bubbles runs over there. We were pleasantly surprised.
You know how in Jamaica you can walk into a bar or restaurant and sometimes the person working there could care less that you’re even there? This was definitely NOT the case at Bubbles. The lady behind the counter was actually called Bubbles and she was the friendliest lady ever! She was at least 9 months pregnant, which means there’s probably a baby Bubbles by now, and she gave us her full attention and conversation while brewing our 3 cups of coffee.
The one thing Bubbles Garden Cafe has is ambiance! I don’t want to say the walls inside look “junky” inside but there’s just so much to look at all over. Each piece has character and adds spice to the place. I took one photo of the wall behind the counter because of the centerpiece, the plaque about enjoying life shown in the photo below. It wasn’t until just today when I was resizing pictures for this blog post that I noticed the zoomed image in the top left corner – also shown below. It made me laugh.
You might be wondering why it’s called a “garden cafe” when it looks like just a roadside stop. What we didn’t know until Bubbles told us is that she has a wonderful garden off to the right of her shop. There’s a little walking path that leads through it with benches along the way where you could just sit and enjoy a beverage if you wanted to. We never ended up walking through the garden part because we just spent our time inside chatting with her but I glanced through the entrance of the garden and it looks beautiful. She also has a good size veranda out front with seating.
My overall impression of Bubbles Garden Cafe – a totally peaceful place. There was no loud music, no riff-raff and NO reason to leave except that we had to make it to our destination. Another thing totally worth mentioning about this cafe were the animals. There was a cat with some baby kittens nursing right on the welcome mat out front who seemed to fit perfectly with the peaceful atmosphere here. And their big dog on the property looked like a German Sheppard and had the most mild temperament ever. I would love to take that dog home! He was so affectionate – the photo below is Michelle the “animal whisperer” LOL.
If you’re ever heading west to Negril make sure to look for Bubbles Garden Cafe on the left side of the road. It’s such a pretty and relaxing place to stop! I notice her sign out front says they offer massage too…..I wonder if that takes place in the garden?
