Go All The Way With Nae!

Well hey there friends of Jamaica My Way!   My very first blog should go out with a bang yeah?  So I have tried (in about 5 minutes) to think of how many times I’ve seen something blow up and to be honest I haven’t really seen anything blow up thank God!  I did see some mean motorcycles back firing and causing what looked liked fireworks displays in the ghettos of Colombia recently but no, sorry no big bang stories for ya!

Now let’s get one thing straight here before we get started; I write as I speak.  Much like what you’re used to reading in Kristi’s blog however… I am Australian.  Yep that means I have a mixture of Aussie slang, Jamaican Patois (mi haffi seh mi patwa a nuh bad) and I dabble with Spanish (sexxiest language ever).  So if I were to write something like, ‘Swing past n grab a coldie’,  I am inviting you over for a drink and you should say ‘yeah no probs’.  Except luckily for you I don’t speak much Australian slang except when I am in Jamaica as we have huge similarities with Patois.

Many times travelling I have been mistaken for British and then I have to explain that I come from the “proper” part of Australia and that I’m not really that proper, and yet I am, but not like that.  Then when I can’t be bothered explaining it any further I simply say ‘Yes, South London’ (that’s where all mi Yaardies live lol). If you are ever confused by my lack of grammar or need translations then by all means splurt it out!

Now what is it I can offer you all who read JMW?  That is the question!  How can I contribute to your passion for Jamaica?  Well I am here to invite you into Naomi’s Jamaica.  Jamaica MY way is tasting, touching, living & breathing the Caribbean island paradise.  Unlike many other countries I have visited, Jamaica speaks to me. (I can hear the JAWS theme in the background now lol)

When Colombus stumbled upon Jamaica in 1494 he stated:

“It is the fairest island that eyes
Have beheld: Mountainous and the land
Seems to touch the sky.
All full of valleys and fields and plains….
And extraordinarily populous”

When Naomi Isabel stumbled upon Jamaica for the first time in 2005 she stated:

“I sensed Angels in the clouds,
Lining the emerald mountain tops.
The ocean danced and played with the suns gentle kisses.
With the warm embrace of Caribbean air my spirits were lifted;
My soul knew it was finally home.”
