Random Afternoon in Spanish Town

While I was staying in Kingston I decided to do a random afternoon to Spanish Town to see some friends I always try to visit when I can. I took my son with me this day, his first time to a place like Spanish Town.

I just HAD to take a picture of the Mandela Highway sign since that’s the place where they captured Christopher “Dudus” Coke. It was a novelty to me now, and the KFC bucket on top of the road sign just makes me laugh.

We went by the family yard to say hi to everyone but no one was really there except baby Dija, who is a whole heap taller and walking since the last time I saw her last year!

Probably the most random thing of all that happened on this afternoon is that my son met a sports celebrity….okay well he’s not really celebrity but it was a cool thing anyways. In the picture below you’ll notice way in the distance there’s a red Coke truck which is where I was hanging out chatting to a friend. My son had gone for a walk with another friend to get a cold drink and came back with this picture!

Apparently this guy’s name is Anthony Cooper who is from Jamaica and was just drafted to the Washington Wizards NBA team, and happened to be wandering the street in Spanish Town! I have yet to verify this is true but it’s sure a great picture…my son is about 5’9″ and this dude is at least a foot taller! This picture is taken right outside the GC Foster sports college so this could be a true story.

I totally know what you mean!!! The loud music at the rum bars is one of my very first and fond memories of the island. Driving in remote places and hearing the pounding music every few miles at those places. Love it.
