German Bar in Jamaica
German Bar in JamaicaOne thing I’ve learned about Jamaica is there are a lot of different cultures and nationalities that have settled into the island. There are plenty of East Indian and Asian businesses all over the place. But this was the first time I’ve seen MY nationality there!

German flag on beach in Jamaica
During my mission to discover more about the parish of St Mary, Jamaica, I drove to Port Maria several times and kept on driving by this bar with a German flag out front. The first time I saw it I said I HAVE to stop there at some point. Our family background is German and my son is particularly patriotic to his German half so I thought of him immediately when I saw this place.

German flag at entrance to the bar
On the way to our FISHING EXCURSION in Port Maria we decided to stop and have our ceremonial drink at a German bar in Jamaica! The sign on the fence at the entrance read “Roy’s & Heike’s Kokomo Beach” and I saw a white guy with dreads walking around in there near the bar. The next thing I noticed is the big German flag waving on the beach!

The inside of the bar was a good size, open to the elements and very quiet. We were the only ones there. Here’s a picture of the bar, my mom was buying the drinks for us.

We spent about a half hour drinking rum and eating peanuts. The prices were local and cheap and the atmosphere was fabulous….right on the water. And the location of this bar is perfect. It’s right on the main highway just before entering Port Maria. You can’t miss it on the left hand side driving towards Port Maria. The only thing I wished I’d done is talk to the owners but didn’t see anyone around at that point. Maybe next time, because I plan to take my son to this bar in July. He will have just turned 18 and he’ll love it!

thats pretty cool.. u can find a little bit of everything if you actually pay attention.
i would’ve never thought that the Germans were representing like that!

Hi JC, just to let you know on the west coast is a town called Seaforth. It was settled by German immigrants many years ago. The residents at one point spoke a mixture of patois and German. There desendents still live there and you can find many blonde haired/ blue eyed Jamaicans there.

Hey Jagal, thanks for sharing that. It’s neat learning all these new little things about Jamaica through comments on my blog. I totally appreciate it when Jamaicans can share things I never knew about the things I’ve done in JA.
