A Jamaican Cause I Support
A Jamaican Cause I SupportYou all know I’ve posted about Jamaican kids NUFF times on this blog and it’s because I LOVE them! Over the years they’ve given me so much to smile about with their singing, dancing, laughing and fun. Now there’s a way that I’m choosing to give back to the children in a country that’s given so much joy to me!
In early 2008 one of my good friends and travel buddy, Reeva Proctor was inspired to create her organization that would help out the kids in her family’s community in Jamaica. And so The Youth Dem Future was born. I won’t go into too much detail in this post because you can read all about her and the awesome things she’s doing on her website.

Reeva and Me
There are a few reasons I’m doing this post. Reeva and her organization can use all the help and exposure it can get because it’s a worthwhile cause. She’s already collected enough school supplies and toys to fill 2 barrels which will be shipped to Jamaica in October and will arrive in Montego Bay in November. I will be going with Reeva to pick up the barrels and help her distribute them in her community. I’m beyond excited to be a part of this!
I know that right now Reeva is in the process of fundraising to get these barrels shipped – this isn’t a cheap process. Each barrel costs $150 to send from Canada and each costs $100 to receive and clear customs in Montego Bay. This is the MAIN reason I’m doing this post, to try and help her cover the costs of shipping since all her other trip expenses are out of pocket as well.
Anyways what I’m proposing is a neat little idea to give her a boost! For every $5.00 donation I collect through this post and through my Facebook fan group, I will enter each name into a draw for a $100.00 Visa gift card! And for anyone who donates more than $5.00 they will get an entry for every $5.00 denomination. The only disclaimer I have to add is that we actually raise more than $100.00 to be able to provide the gift card.
The way I see it is this – I have over 1000 fans in my Facebook group. If everyone even gave one measly dollar that would be huge! And the best part about donating to get these barrels down to Jamaica is that the entire event WILL BE documented by me from start to finish and you’ll get to see it all on the blog! You’ll get to see first hand, the reactions of the kids on the receiving end. What more satisfaction can you ask for?

THANK YOU!!!!
And let’s help these kids stay in school!

Dang. I wish I would have ran into your blog in September. How is she doing with her goals? Did they get the barrell?
